A new MintPress investigation reveals the CIA didn’t just infiltrate governments — it infiltrated the internet itself.
For over a decade, the agency ran a massive network of more than 885 covert websites — disguised as harmless blogs, fan pages, and news sites — to spy on targets across 36 countries, including U.S. allies like France and Italy.
These fake sites — ranging from soccer blogs to Star Wars fan pages — were used to recruit and communicate with informants through hidden password fields and encrypted messaging systems.
This digital espionage network shows how deeply U.S. intelligence has blurred the line between surveillance and the open internet — targeting both adversaries and allies alike.
