The Israeli obsession with Amalek, mentioned in songs, speeches and here on the battlefield is very telling. The demographic growth of national religious and Haredi groups in. Israel provides important context here. Secular reasoning matters less and less in an increasingly fanatic religious society.
They believe the biblical story provides a theological and moral excuse to perform genocide since God commanded to “utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” This is a genocide with strong Jewish fundamentalist roots. They believe God has commanded them to slaughter innocents.
