That Israelis cannot see that the Palestinian animosity is akin to the Algerian and Vietnamese animosity to the French - not Nazi Germany - is the problem here. There is no reason that Palestinians shouldn't have regarded a phenomenon that acted, looked, and talked like colonialism as colonialism. The fact that the European Jews who colonized Palestine may have had Middle Eastern ancestors 2,000 years ago doesn't change Zionism's character as European colonialism, as people like Herzl, Jabotinsky and Ben-Gurion understood well.
