Their recognition does not stem from a genuine commitment to justice, but rather for three reasons:

When countries such as Britain, the very architect of the Israeli project, alongside Canada, Australia, and even if one day the United States, move to recognize Palestine, this decision must be read carefully. Their recognition does not stem from a genuine commitment to justice, but rather for three reasons: 1- To appease their own publics, who increasingly witness and condemn Israel’s actions. 2- To absolve themselves of responsibility for future massacres by claiming: “We did our part, we recognized Palestine.” 3-To give Israel freer rein to commit even greater atrocities, all under the convenient cover of recognizing a Palestinian state. The clearest indication of this came from Benjamin Netanyahu himself, who declared, before these recognitions were even announced, that such steps pose a threat to Israel’s national security. In practice, these governments will claim they fulfilled their duty by recognizing Palestine, while in reality doing nothing to stop Israel’s massacres, not only in Gaza and Palestine, but across the wider Middle East. Instead of symbolic gestures, what could have truly restrained Israel was an end to Western military and financial support. That alone would have been enough to halt the bloodshed and put limits on Israel’s actions. Ultimately, these empty and hypocritical stances amount to little. They neither advance justice nor deter aggression.
