Right-wing political commentator Candace Owens has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of lying by "severe omission" about a letter written to him by the late Charlie Kirk. The controversy arose during Netanyahu's prime-time interview on Fox News following Kirk's assassination in September 2025.
Netanyahu's tribute and letter excerpt
During his September 11, 2025, appearance on Fox News, Netanyahu paid an emotional tribute to Kirk, calling him a "lion-hearted friend of Israel".
He cited an excerpt from a letter Kirk had reportedly sent to him on May 2, 2025, in which Kirk expressed his "greatest joys as a Christian is advocating for Israel and forming alliances to defend Judeo-Christian civilization".
Netanyahu described Kirk as a "defender of our common Judeo-Christian civilization" and recalled inviting him to Israel two weeks prior, a visit that would no longer take place.
Candace Owens's accusations
Following Netanyahu's interview, Owens took to social media to accuse him of misrepresenting the letter.
She claimed the letter contained additional content that contradicted the impression Netanyahu gave on air, potentially related to Kirk's reported disagreements with donors over Israel and his alleged opposition to a war with Iran.
In posts on X, Owens stated that Netanyahu's quote was a "lie by severe omission" and that he "held the letter in his hand and propagandized it". She demanded that Netanyahu publish the entire letter.
Context of Kirk's death
The accusations by Owens came just one day after Kirk was fatally shot at an event at Utah Valley University.
Since the assassination, various individuals and groups have engaged in heated commentary and pushed conspiracy theories surrounding his death.
The FBI continues to investigate the motives of the suspect in the shooting.
