Israel has destroyed the Christian presence in Palestine while continuing to bomb churches and related institutions in Gaza, the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs said.
Responding to Netanyahu’s UN speech claiming Israel protects Christians, the committee accused him of spreading lies:
“Israel’s colonial policies of ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide have destroyed the Christian presence in Palestine.”
The committee noted that Christians made up 12.5% of the population before the 1948 Nakba but now only 1.2% in historic Palestine and 1% in the territories occupied in 1967. It blamed ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, land confiscation, and systematic repression.
Examples cited include:
➤ The displacement of 90,000 Palestinian Christians during the Nakba
➤ The forced closure of about 30 churches
➤ The 1948 Semiramis Hotel bombing in Jerusalem that killed 25 Christians
➤ The execution of 12 Christians in Eilabun village near Nazareth
