Israelis spend most of their time in generating and perpetuating self-delusion. The main delusion is that Israel will be "forgiven", that "this too shall pass", that the world will come to its senses and realize that sometimes good people do bad things. On the other hand, we cannot look away from our fall, counting the minutes and seconds until we are thrown out of UEFA and FIFA or out of the Eurovision song contest.
This is that same dialectic of genocide, the one that kills Israel and Israelis just as we continue to slaughter Palestinians. It isn't about knowledge or moral agency. Israelis have never passed that test, having fantasized about the removal of Palestinians and having fulfilled Jewish supremacy since Israel's inception. It is about the Danse Macabre, the physics of choosing solipsism and imminent death.
Israelis have made their choice. Having done so, our demise justifies our course of action as much as our wholesale murder of Palestinians. The only way we have of proving ourselves right includes being hated up to the edge of the abyss. How would we know who we are otherwise? We have no morals. From the edge of the abyss it is just one small step. We took it.
