The gradual illegalization of pro-Palestine solidarity activism in the West is about much more than just protecting the genocidal Israeli regime.
What Western oligarchic regimes are doing is making it a crime to oppose imperialism.
They are reshaping the law to claim it an act of "terrorism" to resist imperialism -- while, at the same time, Western oligarchic regimes are supporting a Syrian puppet dictator who was the leader of Al-Qaeda and an ally of ISIS.
Why is this happening?
The imperialist West recognizes that it is in severe crisis and facing rapid decline, primarily due to the rise of China, but also because of the correspondent decay and stagnation of Western deindustrialized neoliberal-capitalist economies, the growth of Global South-led organizations like BRICS, the spread of dedollarization, and the increasingly militant anti-imperialist movement.
So the capitalist-oligarchic ruling classes in the West have assessed that they need to abandon the superficial veneer of liberal "democracy" and the hypocritical rhetoric about "human rights", and return to a more blatant kind of violent colonialism, reminiscent of the 19th century.
Donald Trump is the perfect symbol of this, with his invocation of Manifest Destiny and his repeated promises to use force to physically expand the territory of the US empire, by colonizing Greenland, the Panama Canal, Gaza, and even potentially Canada and Mexico.
But Trump is a symptom, not the cause. Each Western country has its own fascistic variety of Trumpism, which pledges to bring back the "good old days" of mass-murderous European colonialism, which they see as the only way to revive their decadent economic systems.
What is the strategy?
Western oligarchies are using the issue of Israel-Palestine to criminalize anti-imperialism. If you oppose the genocidal crimes of Western imperialists, they will claim you are "anti-Semitic" and a "terrorist", fire you, censor you, even arrest you.
The goal is clear. Israel's attempt to colonize of all of historic Palestine is part of a much larger project. Western capitalist-imperialists want to reverse the anti-colonial national-liberation struggles that swept the world through revolutions in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s.
Their aim is to reimpose the colonial hegemony of the US-led West on the world, at the barrel of a gun. What they are doing to Gaza is what they want to do to the entire Global South, so they can keep its workers (the Global Majority) permanently subordinated and trapped at the bottom of the international division of labor.
They desperately want the international division of labor to be determined by Western centi-billionaire (soon to be trillionaire) oligarchs, who can use their monopolistic control of AI and other advanced technologies to extract rents from everyone else on Earth, guaranteeing a permanent exorbitant privilege.
