The Australian government today supported the release of a new antisemitism plan that weaponises anti-racism to silence dissent, criminalise Palestine advocacy and entrench settler-colonial power.
The plan proposes the nationwide enshrinement of the discredited IHRA definition of antisemitism which conflates criticism of Israel and Zionism with antisemitism, as well as proposing expanded policing, the ideological surveillance of organisations, charities, universities and media outlets and racialised ideological border enforcement measures.
It entrenches a hierarchy of racism, and ignores the dangerous rise of racism towards First Nations people, Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims and other marginalised communities.APAN rejects this authoritarian blueprint in its entirety and urges the Australian government to reject it too.
