Many in the IDF have admitted that the Haaretz investigation into the practice of shooting people lining up for food is quite common. An IDF commander openly acknowledged that artillery shells have been routinely fired at starving Gazans waiting in line for food—even when they posed no threat. He justified the shelling as a way to keep order at distribution points, but insisted the army is now “fixing it” and changing tactics. He also promised a “reduction” in the use of artillery against desperate civilians standing in food lines. And yes, he actually said that.
