In attacking Iran, the US has committed the international crime of aggression, which was deemed the “supreme crime” by the Nuremberg Tribunal. It had no legal justification for doing so whatsoever. Secondly, in failing to seek Congressional authorization for its reckless act of war, the Trump administration has violated US domestic law as well. Third, attacking nuclear installations in this way is a further grave breach of international law, and a dangerous action risking the lives and well-being of civilians across the region. But perhaps most disgracefully of all, the attack was launched on behalf of an oppressive foreign regime, Israel, which has led this aggression, is practicing the crime of apartheid, is on trial at the World Court for Genocide, and the leaders of which have been indicted for crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court. To obscure their criminal accountability, the Trump administration has dusted off the tired old Iraq ruse of “weapons of mass destruction”, knowing full well that the UN, the IAEA, and even the US national security agencies themselves have all declared that Iran has no nuclear weapons, and is not developing them. What country does have nuclear weapons that it hides from inspectors, as it attacks several of its neighbors? Israel. This is the madness of US policy.
