The fight between America First and the Neocons in or around the Trump administration has been a rollercoaster. Weeks before Israel started the war, the neocons had suffered severe losses with some of the personnel changes in the admin.
Yet, with Trump's approval of the Israeli red line of zero enrichment, he had inadvertently put himself on a trajectory toward conflict, which materialized in the past days.
Still, despite finally getting the US-Iran war the neocons had fought for the past 25 years, Trump cut it short after just one attack and pivoted toward a ceasefire.
The neocons may win the next fight. Or they may lose it. The situation is very fluid.
BUT, one thing is certain: America First, which for long has sought to avoid a direct confirmation with Israel, has been changed forever. They have seen how Israel and the neocons fight dirty. They have realized that there is no middle ground with that movement. They have realized and talk openly about Israel not adding to America's security, but rather consuming it.
They have realized that the US-Israel relationship has to be fundamentally reformed and reset for the America First foreign policy agenda to be implemented.
There is no going back on that.
