One overlooked Trump move that takes on new salience is his ouster this year of Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In a rare Jan 2024 interview, Brown signaled that he sought to prevent war with Iran. Asked whether the US is "not being tough enough on Iran", Gen. Brown responded:
"Do you want us in a full-scale war? ...We don’t want to go down a path of greater escalation that drives to a much broader conflict within the region."
He also said later in the interview that Iran doesn't want war with the US. Did this factor in Trump's decision to fire him?
