Trump’s visit to the Gulf is not a diplomatic mission, and not a “peace” mission. It is (1) an impunity tour, directed to pushing Arab states toward normalization with the Israeli regime in the midst of a genocide and just as the regime begins its final phase of the destruction of Palestine, (2) a matchmaking tour to (further) marry US oligarchs with Arab monarchs, (3) a coming-out party for the Al-Sharaa regime in Syria as a loyal US (and Israel) client state. The US is betting on the continuation of an oppressive regional status quo that will allow it to expand its role as emperor. Let’s hope the people of the region have a different idea.
