I once visited a white family in South Africa near Kruger; they were literally living in a settlement like Israelis in the West Bank The fenced & heavily guarded settlement had 2 gates; one for (white) residents driving in/out freely, another for (black) workers going on foot & inspected on their way in/out. Workers needed a permit to enter. They were maids, construction workers, pool cleaners. Each lavish housing unit had a swimming pool full of water while everything outside was dry. All the customers at the cafes in town were white, all the workers black. I can't recall seeing a single poor white person the whole time, except for one rough looking worker at a centre for endangered species. The inequality was the most obscene I've ever seen after the occupied Palestinian territory. Political apartheid in South Africa was merely replaced with economic apartheid.
