As some Western governments are preparing to distance themselves from Israel's slaughter in Gaza, the strategy appears to be to put all the blame on Netanyahu in order to exonerate Israel itself.
This may be politically convenient, but grossly inaccurate and ultimately counterproductive. A Penn State poll shows, for instance, that 82% of Israeli Jews support the forced expulsion of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
According to Israel's supporters in the West themselves, Israel is a democracy. So it is not a dictatorship in which the population lacks responsibility for the insane actions of the dictator.
The war, the apartheid, and the genocide were not conducted against the wishes of the majority of the Israeli public. Nor were these actions kept hidden from the public.
There is a deeper problem here that needs to be resolved for the sake of peace and for the sake of Israel itself.
And that cannot happen if the West moves from pretending that Israel isn't conducting a genocide to pretending that it's only Netanyahu's fault.
