If I have to guess what happened, I think Trump and his administration were taken by surprise at the Israeli wave of attacks in Yemen, which were perceived as dismissive of the American attempt to handle that threat - remember, the whole Yemen operation was undertaken for Israel and its extermination campaign in Gaza.
As a result of Trump's decision, Yemen will be free to operate against Israel without having to stave off the US at the same time. That's going to make things much easier for them.

Israel's arrogance is starting to get on America's nerves (remember: they used American equipment and financing to embarrass the US military in Yemen). If this trend holds a little bit longer (and it will 'take', the only question is when), it's going to spread like fire in a fake Israeli forest.
In response, by the way, Israel will do the only thing it knows how: more bloodshed and more displays of domination. Netanyahu is already using unusually violent threats against Gaza's remaining babies.
I bet AIPAC is occupying all available lines in Washington at the moment, trying to understand what happened and make sure they still control the show. And, in more secretive Zionist rooms, some extremely outrageous proposals are probably being discussed in all seriousness.
Be it as it may, and whatever Israel decides to do, the Zionist control over Western political power will not last forever, or even much longer. That process is going to be explosively satisfying to watch
