There is something astonishing about the way journalists keep regurgitating, as the BBC does here, Israel's patently deceitful justifications for attacking Gaza's hospitals.
The Al-Ahli hospital, overseen by Anglicans from Jerusalem, has been struck repeatedly by Israel over the past 18 months, including in the first weeks of Israel's onslaught.
How can any journalist with functioning brain cells imagine for one moment that – even accepting the highly improbable claim that Hamas initially used the hospital as 'a command and control centre' – it is still doing so 18 months on, after Israel has made clear that the destruction of Gaza's hospitals is central to its genocidal campaign?
What's more, why would Hamas select every hospital in Gaza as just such a 'command and control centre' – even ones run by Christians – and keep using them as such when Israel is desperately seeking a pretext to destroy all the supportive infrastructure in Gaza needed to keep the population there alive?
For that to be the case, Hamas' interests would need to align exactly with Israel's interests in committing genocide, in starving Gaza's people and stripping them of healthcare. Hamas would have to desire a situation in which its actions provide Israel with precisely the excuse Israel needs to deprive the parents, siblings and children of Hamas fighters of the facilities required to save their lives.
Is that remotely likely? Of course, it isn't.
