At the end of every U.S. war, there's always this one NYT article that goes "actually we've been lying to you all this time."
I guess it clears their conscience. It doesn't matter anymore, but like that they can at least point to one article where they told something resembling the truth.
And then a few months later, we can expect a Hollywood movie about how committing war crimes made U.S. soldiers feel sad, or something to that effect.
No lesson will be learned from any of it, of course.
