Many people are under the impression that Mandela renounced armed struggle. But he did not. In fact, while in prison he was offered freedom in exchange for renouncing armed struggle but he refused, saying he would only do so if the South African state would commit to cease their violent oppression of the Black majority, and dismantle apartheid.
