I remember when Americans fiercely defended their right to protest, criticize, insult, or even express hostility toward Islam. Even Netanyahu flew to Paris, forcing himself to the front lines in defense of free speech after the Charlie Hebdo attack. But now, when Americans direct similar criticism toward Israel, the rules suddenly change. New executive orders are signed, antisemitism bills are introduced, and universities are pressured to adopt restrictive definitions of antisemitism that curb free speech. Meanwhile, Netanyahu and his forces have reportedly jailing—and even killing—journalists in the Middle East. Social media accounts criticizing Israel are suspended, while accounts advocating for the removal of Palestinians remain untouched. And yet, the US government is telling how the rest of the world should have freedom of speech. Such hypocrisy.
