I don’t think Israel or the US thought they would return, that they would want to return to this. That they would ‘choose voluntarily to leave’ instead, and all that remained to be sorted was how to remove them and to where.
They will stay and be killed rather leave. To leave is to have no right of return, and it would spell the end of their hope for a Palestinian State. Palestinians are remarkable.
