I visited the site of Jesus's baptism & learned something shocking. The Jordan River is dry. Its water flow is 2% of its former level. Since the 60s, Israel's National Water Carrier has diverted water from the Sea of Galilee. A puddle remains where Jesus was baptised. This reduction has destroyed the river's ecosystem, degraded the environment, shattered biodiversity, and shrunk the Dead Sea, which is fed by the Jordan River. Jordan is one of the most water scarce countries in the world. With the natural recharge of groundwater aquifers depleted, and a reduction in rainfall due to climate change, Jordan is dependent on importing water from Israel to meet its needs.
