aid workers in #Gaza in April: Air Chief Marshall Binskin was appointed special adviser but was instructed “not to conduct an independent investigation”. The investigation “focused on the Israeli response, not the incident itself”. The Israelis held back evidence, including providing Binskin with “UAV video without audio” of the discussion between the drone pilot and his commanders. Despite being denied this evidence about the killings, Binskin reported back that the Israelis “provided the information he required”. As Declassified Australia reported, Binskin told the Franklin family that he didn’t access the audio because “he was told that it was in Hebrew and it wouldn’t be understood”. Despite all this, faithful servant Binskin confidently reported to the federal government in August that “the IDF strike on the WCK aid workers was not knowingly or deliberately directed against the WCK”. How could Binskin have possibly got to the bottom of anything if he wasn't appointed to conduct an independent investigation of the incident rather than simply looking at the Israeli investigation? How could he adequately assess the adequacy of the latter without the former?
