Israel: media outlet warns about impact of Gaza war on young people in Egypt

 

A major media outlet in the occupation state has issued a warning about the impact of the Gaza war and its prolonged duration on the young generation in Egypt, noting that it could turn them into a ticking time bomb ready to act against Israel in the future.

According to Israel Hayom, the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip increases radicalism and hostility towards Israel as well as extremism in matters of religion, society and the economy. This is evident on social media in Egypt and television news about events in the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli newspaper added that Cairo hopes to stop this radicalism from snowballing and benefit from a limited deal to end the war in Gaza, leading to regional, economic and social stability. It added that the security problems facing Israel are not at the top of Egyptian President Al-Sisi’s priorities, and it seems that in Cairo, they only hope to stop the war as it is in Egypt’s interest to do so.

Egypt is determined to prove the necessity of its presence in the regional system before the US presidential election, said Israel Hayom, and the “Cairo Initiative” announced by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is a last attempt to end the war in Gaza. It said that if an agreement is reached, Cairo will be able to say that the agreement paves the way for ending the war, or at least stopping the brutal Israeli military offensive in the northern Gaza Strip.

Al-Sisi himself announced the initiative during a press conference with his Algerian counterpart in Cairo a few days ago. Another sign of this appeared in the appointment of a new head of Egyptian intelligence, Major General Mahmoud Hassan Rashid, who was appointed on 16 October, the day of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s assassination, and met within two weeks with the head of the Israeli Shin Bet domestic security agency, Ronan Bar, and a Hamas delegation.

Israel Hayom explained that Egypt has a fair number of interests, because as long as the war continues, the Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea will continue, which has prevented many ships from passing through the Suez Canal. This is one of the most important sources of income for Egypt, which lost much of its profits last year, another economic blow to be added to the effects of the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

Success in the Egyptian mediation talks would be a tribute to Tehran and its Yemeni militia allies, added the newspaper, because stopping the war in Gaza would contribute to a settlement in Yemen, and together they would ensure the stability of the shipping route through the Suez Canal.
