Ukrainian Military Appears to Be Using US-Made Black Hawk Helicopter

The Military Intelligence of Ukraine posted a photo on its website of a Black Hawk Helicopter. The aircraft was painted with a Ukrainian flag and the intelligence agency indicated the helicopters were used in military operations. 

Two photos of the Black Hawk were posted on the Twitter account as well as the website of the Military Intelligence Agency of Ukraine.

The press release accompanying the photos said the agency had recently completed military missions. “Aviation of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine continues to work at the forefront of the defense of our state. As soon as the reconnaissance pilots returned after completing the next combat mission.” It continued, “Aviation of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine performs combat missions at the forefront of defense. Combat helicopters significantly increase the capabilities of special units of the Main Directorate of Intelligence and the effectiveness of special operations.”

It is unclear how Kiev obtained the helicopter or if it has been used in combat operations. Officially, the White House has approved sending Sovate-era Mi-17 Helicopters. Those helicopters were formerly owned by the Afghan government. 

In June, The Times of London reported the Sherman battalion, a division of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine, claimed to have carried out operations inside of Russia. 

President Joe Biden has resisted sending advanced and long-range weapons to Kiev out of a concern they could be used for attacks inside Russian territory.
