Iran: Nuclear Activities Are Fully Reversible
Spokesman criticizes IAEA for non-cooperation
by Jason Ditz
Last week’s IAEA meeting culminated with an anti-Iran resolution. Iran retaliated by announcing increases in enrichment activities, and removing some IAEA cameras. This was condemned by the US and European nations.
Iran has issued a statement now pointing out that all of these activities are fully reversible, and that actions that are not compliant with the 2015 deal could be quickly brought back into compliance if a deal was reached.
That is roughly in keeping with now Iran has acted since the deal fell apart, holding out return to compliance if the other side returns to the sanctions relief that Iran was promised but never received.
Iran FM spokesman Saqeed Khatibzadeh said Iran continues to honor the safeguards agreement, and stopped voluntary additional measures. He urged the US to give up the “delusion of using leverage” and meet commitments, saying that could yield results.
