US Claims Russia Has List of Ukrainians to Be ‘Killed or Sent to Camps’
The US made the claim in a letter to the UNIn the latest US accusation against Russia, Washington has claimed in a letter to the UN that Russia is compiling a list of Ukrainians it would kill or send to camps following a military occupation of Ukraine.
“We have credible information that indicates Russian forces are creating lists of identified Ukrainians to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation,” the US said in the letter, which was published by The Washington Post on Sunday.
The US claimed Russia would likely target “those who oppose Russian actions, including Russian and Belarusian dissidents in exile in Ukraine, journalists and anti-corruption activists, and vulnerable populations such as religious and ethnic minorities and LGBTQI+ persons.”
Like most recent US claims, no evidence was offered to back up the accusations made in the letter. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan made a similar claim on Sunday, warning that Russia was preparing an “extremely violent” invasion of Ukraine meant to “crush” the Ukrainian people.
“We also have intelligence to suggest that there will be an even greater form of brutality because this will not simply be some conventional war between two armies,” Sullivan said. “It will be a war waged by Russia on the Ukrainian people to repress them, to crush them, to harm them.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the breakaway republics in the Donbas on Monday and ordered troops into the territory for a “peacekeeping” mission. But since the separatists requested the Russian help, there’s no reason to believe the troops will target civilians. Despite the US claims, there’s still no indication that Russia will order a full-scale invasion to topple Kyiv.
