Months of Yemen Talks End Unsuccessfully in Oman
UN talks failed to agree on political plan to end war
by Jason Ditz
Yemeni officials have reported on behind-the-scenes UN talks in Oman, which aimed to develop a plan to end the war in Yemen. The talks ended Thursday with a deadlock, and no plan was reached.
The talks were organized by US and UN officials and went for months. Oman hosted a Houthi team for the talks. Oman has served as mediator in past efforts as well.
Exactly how the talks went and what was discussed is unclear. This is likely by design as it allows both sides to blame the other for a failure.
Since these talks were ongoing for months without media coverage, it’s not clear the process is really dead at this point, or if it is just moved on to another unreported process.
