Israel FM: World Can’t Imagine Our Capabilities to Attack Iran
Says Israel might attack without informing US
by Jason Ditz
Iran’s nuclear talks are ongoing, which if you’re checking your watch means it is time for Israel to start threatening war again. In an interview, Israeli FM Yair Lapid played up action “against the Iranian threat.“
Lapid also talked up the idea of not informing the US of the attack, saying Israel doesn’t need anybody’s permission to attack Iran. He was critical of the ongoing nuclear talks, though he did concede there was as yet no “bad deal” made.
Israel’s last round of threats involved military officials, first talking up their capabilities then later walking back the idea of a unilateral attack, suggesting Israel lacked the ability for a sustained attack.
Lapid, on the other hand, suggested Israel has near unlimited capabilities, saying even world experts couldn’t imagine all the things Israel is capable of. He did not elaborate nor suggest what this entailed.
Israel’s capabilities are often officially underplayed, with their nuclear arsenal one of the world’s work kept secrets. That said, Israel has often internally tried to spin their military successes as them being God’s favored people. That has led to a narrative, popular on Israel’s right, that they are militarily invincible. While clearly that can only take them so far, over-confidence also risks them starting foolish conflicts.
