At Least 15 Killed in Car Bombing Outside Afghan Police HQ
Over 150 others, mostly civilians, wounded in strike
Jason Ditz
A suicide car bomb in Afghanistan’s Ghor Province has done massive damage, and killed at least 15 people, mostly civilians. 150 others were wounded in the attack, which was outside the provincial police headquarters.
Ghor officials say the attack destroyed several government buildings, including the police office, the women’s affairs department and provincial office for refugees. They added the blast was so powerful that it could be heard across the provincial capital.
There has been no claim of credit for responsibility, but officials were pointing fingers at the Taliban for the attack. That would not be unusual for the Taliban to strike government buildings like this, though their recent focus has been in Helmand Province.
The Taliban and Afghan government have been trading attacks in recent weeks, despite ongoing peace talks, which are meant to ultimately result in a ceasefire. So far there is no word of a ceasefire being close.
