Pompeo: US Won’t Let Iran Buy Arms Even If Embargo Expires
Says US will do anything they can to extend embargo

From arguments that the US is still sort of part of the P5+1 nuclear deal onward, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the US will seek all ways possible to extend the Iranian arms embargo, scheduled to expire in October.
All ways possible probably isn’t going to work, as Russia is certain to veto any extension, since they intend to start selling Iran defensive arms after the embargo ends. Since the expiration was a condition of the nuclear deal, there is little the US can do to extend it.
Pompeo, however, argued that this didn’t really matter, as the US would unilaterally impose the embargo on Iran even if the UN one expires. The US has tried to impose an oil embargo on Iran, with some success.
But as with the US oil embargo , Iran has been able to sell oil to Russia and China, who ignore the US ban. Russia will probably similarly ignore a US arms embargo on Iran, and may simplify this by trading oil for arms directly.
