New Armed Group Takes Credit for Recent Attacks on US Forces in Iraq

'Revolutionary League' demands US withdraw from Iraq

The US was very quick to blame the rocket attacks on Iraq’s Camp Taji, which killed two US troops, on Shi’ite militia Kataib Hezbollah. Yet a new video by a heretofore unknown group calling itself the “League of Revolutionaries” has now claimed that they were the ones behind the attack.

The Revolutionary League statement claimed they’d used the minimum amount of force in their attacks. They also demanded that the US immediately withdraw from Iraq, threatening more attacks if the US tried to remain in the country.

Who exactly the Revolutionary League is remains unclear, though analysts were quickly trying to link them to the Shi’ite militia movement as well, noting similarities in the video speech to recent speech formats by Lebanese Hezbollah leaders.

Trying to link them to the Shi’ite militias allows the US to keep on its same strategy of picking fights with Iran over the matter, though it is risky to just ignore the potential of another new group that has problems with the US occupation and about which virtually nothing is really known.
