British Oil Tanker Arrives in Dubai After Leaving Iranian Detention
Ship was held for 10 weeks by Iranian government

Released on Friday, The British-flagged Stena Impero tanker has left Iran’s port of Bandar Abbas and docked at Port Rashid in Dubai. The entire crew was accounted for and in good health.
The Stena Impero was held in detention by Iran for 10 weeks, after being detained on accusations of maritime violations. This was reportedly a hit-and-run incident. Seven members of the 23-man crew had already been released, and the rest were released Friday with the ship.
The Stena Bulk company says they were never in negotiations over the ship, and aren’t aware of any charges ever being made. The detention was seen as likely related to the detention of Iran’s oil tanker by Britain at Gibraltar. That ship too was ultimately released.
Iranian officials say the investigation into the Stena Impero has not been completed, but that they decided to lift the detention order, allowing the ship and crew to go about its business after a lengthy detention.
