Taliban Suicide Truck Bomb Kills 14, Wounds 145 in Afghan Capital
Taliban says attack targeted recruitment center for security forces

A huge explosion tore through morning rush hour traffic in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday, with the Taliban having detonated a suicide truck bomb, targeting what they described as a “recruitment center.”
At least 14 people were killed in the huge blast, and 145 others were wounded. Government officials say that the casualties were overwhelmingly civilians, and didn’t address the recruitment center comment.
Instead a spokesman for President Ghani said he thought the attack proves that the Taliban “have no commitment to peace,” despite reports as recently as the day prior that the US and Taliban are getting close to finalizing a peace deal.
Ghani’s government has been kept an the outside looking in on the talks, and it’s no surprising they’d want ongoing violence to be presented as proof that the process, without their involvement, is not going well.
