Trump Says Invading Venezuela Remains an Option

Guaido won't rule out endorsing US invasion

All options are on the table in Venezuela. That’s something the Trump Administration has repeatedly insisted. In comments Sunday, President Trump reiterated that invading Venezuela militarily remains an option.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro isn’t keen on that idea, and warned that the war would leave the White House “stained with blood,” telling a reporter that a US war in Venezuela would be “a repeat of Vietnam.”

Russia’s Foreign Ministry also warned the US against such an invasion, calling for international restraint, and saying the goal should be to help Venezuela, not impose “destructive meddling” on them.

The US-backed replacement for Maduro, interim President Juan Guaido, says he will not rule out backing a US invasion launched on his behalf, though he said his priority is steering Venezuela “towards democracy.”
