Taliban Kill at Least 32 Security Forces Across Northern Afghanistan

Officials claim Taliban also suffered heavy casualties

Starting early in the morning on Thursday, Taliban fighters carried out a series of attacks across northern Afghanistan, hitting a number of posts and security checkpoints.

All told, at least 32 Afghan security forces were killed, including military, police, and some government-organized militias. The largest attacks were in Kunduz, where at least 10 were killed.

Kunduz provincial officials claimed 25 Taliban casualties in the fighting, and several other provinces reported substantial Taliban casualties as well. There weren’t any confirmed numbers, and the Taliban did not comment in their own statement.

Instead, the Taliban’s statement emphasized that they had overrun several security posts and seized large amounts of weapons and ammunition. Several recent Taliban statements have focused on that, saying that they secured a lot of extra weapons.
