State Dept Names ‘Special Representative for Iran’

Hook will coordinate anti-Iran action within department

With so much effort already being expended on trying to sell the rest of the world on the Trump Administration’s anti-Iran positions, the State Department announced on Thursday that it is appointing Brian Hook as the special representative for Iran.

Brian Hook
Hook is one of the top policy advisers within the State Department, and before the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal he had been advising theadministration to work on getting addendum to the nuclear deal as opposed to withdrawing.

The new position will head the Iran Action Group, and will be intended to coordinate all anti-Iran actions taken by the US State Department worldwide. That’s already a substantial number of actions, but the creation of this new group and new position suggests that the amount of effort dedicated this will be growing.

At present, most of the US diplomatic actions on Iran center on trying to sell the rest of the world on complying with US sanctions. This is likely to continue to be the focus, though a number of nations, including China and the European Union have rejected these demands.
