Bolton: US Sanctions Will Remain Until Russia Changes Its Behavior
New Sanctions Against Russia Go Into Effect Monday
Jason Ditz
US officials are saying new sanctions against Russia, previously announced earlier this month, will formally go into effect on Monday. The sanctions will prevent certain types of financing to Russia, and the export of certain goods and technology to them.
The sanctions were imposed as part of one of several sets of sanctions meant to punish Russia for the nerve agent attack in Britain. Russia has denied any involvement in this attack, and Britain, despite insisting it is true, has offered no public proof of Russian responsibility.
Those sanctions aren’t going anywhere, according to John Bolton. He says the US sanctions will remain in place until “the required change in Russian behavior.” He says US policy remains as it has been.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing the sanctions, saying they will only add to tensions between the two countries. These are just the latest in a long line of US sanctions targeting the Russians.
