US Experts Will Be Invited to North Korea Nuclear Test Site Shutdown
Site will be shut down in May

North Korea has promised full transparency on the shut down of their nuclear weapons test site. Kim Jong-un is planning to invite US experts and journalists from both the US and South Korea to the dismantling of the site.
North Korea announced earlier this month that they were halting all testing on both nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. At that time, they also said they intended to dismantle the Punggye-ri site, their only nuclear testing site.
South Korean officials say that they’ve been told the closure of the site will happen at some point in May, though an exact date has not been set. North Korea last used the site for a weapons test in 2017.
Punggye-ri is a hollowed out mountain in North Korea’s northeast. It has been the site of all six North Korean nuclear tests. North Korea is planning to negotiate a deal to dismantle their nuclear weapons program in return for a peace deal, and would thus no longer need the site to remain open.
