China, Russia Slam Trump’s ‘Cold War Mentality’
Nations See New National Security Strategy as Imperialist
Jason Ditz
US officials don’t seem to agree on if President Trump even read his new National Security Strategy, as presented Monday, but someone definitely gave him the gist of it. Either way, China and Russia have had a look at it, and are none too happy.
Both nations issued statements Tuesday decrying the new strategy as having a “Cold War mentality,” and saying President Trump was exhibiting an “imperialist character,” in having presented both of them as global competitors.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the US needed to abandon the “outdated” notion that China’s goals were a zero sum game with America’s, saying it is only harming everyone in the region.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the US view of a “unipolar world,” and expressed unhappiness with the US claiming Russia is a “threat to US security” going forward.
