Okay, back to the surreal circus, increasingly unavoidable as the White House swiftly implodes, and the Republic possibly with it. In today's news of massive illegality that sure looks like treason and multiple crimes against truth, reason and decency: In response to the debacle of the Russian-infatuated Flynn - and oh the epic irony of his famous rant to "Lock Her Up!" because "we do not need a president who believes she's above the law" - and the many other, newly revealed Trumpsters' eager consultation calls with Putey, the moron-in-chief issued, yes, an early-morning, downright hysterical Twitterfit, "where everything, everything, is being thrown at the wall by tiny, angry hands in a desperate effort to find anything that will stick "- it's the fake news media, it's to cover-up "the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton's losing campaign," it's illegal information "just like Russia" (say what?), and anyway didja see how soft Obama was on Crimea?

 

Then Drumpf had a bizarre press conference with Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu where the two autocrats celebrated their shared "values" like bigotry and alternative facts like the shining-but-threatened-on-all-sides democracy that is Israel. Resolutely stonewalling any real questions about real news by only calling on right-wing outlets - and literally walking away from the only attempted shouted question on Russia from CNN - Trump again attacked the media, again said that Flynn was treated "very unfairly," and, offering his wise counsel on the intractable issues facing Israel/Palestine, said he's "looking at two states and one state" (also maybe Altered States?) and "I like the one both parties like," another way of saying he has no frigging idea what they're talking about, but whatever, it'll be bigly. 

 

In another astonishing exchange, asked how he'd respond to rising anti-Semitism given the racist and xenophobic tone of his reign, he (again) bragged about how many electoral votes he got, proclaimed he's seeing "a tremendous amount of enthusiasm," actually went there and said he had many Jewish friends and don't forget his son-in-law, noted we have a "very, very divided country" and vowed, "I'm going to try to do something about that," which made us all feel much better. "We are going to have peace, we are going to stop crime, we are going to do everything in our power to stop long-simmering racism (and) every other thing that's going on," he said. "A lot of bad things have been going on for a very long period of time...You're going to see a lot different happening in the United States. You're going to see a lot of love. You're going to see a lot of love, okay?"

 

Before he ushers in all those unicorns, though, he's going back to his posh Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida this weekend, a jaunt that will cost taxpayers over $3 million. Given this is his third straight vacation weekend in as many weeks of his so-called presidency, and that his much-touted "accomplishments" are turning out to be as insubstantial as his mind, heart and soul, the murmurings of discontent are getting loud enough that one prominent Republican has called for his impeachment. In a blistering op-ed in a Ohio paper, lifelong GOP-er and longtime judge Mark Painter cites "the dozens of dazzlingly illegal things" already done by a bullying grifter, liar and "would-be dictator" betraying basic American values. He describes watching "what once was a sane, center-right party go off the rails, first to the extreme right, then to wherever Trump is, which is in another universe." "Each new day is a new nightmare," he writes. "We are still trying to digest one breathtaking assault on America when another is signed, issued, or Tweeted. All this amid constant lies. Constant. Lies." Addressing his Congressman, he ends, "If you need help drafting those articles of impeachment...I am available." We are too.
