‘Unpresidented’: Trump corrects Chinese drone seizure Twitter mishap
US President-elect Donald Trump has once again become the butt of numerous jokes on social media since making another spelling error on Twitter.
“China steals United States Navy research drone in international waters – rips it out of water and takes it to China in unpresidented act,” Trump said on Saturday, misspelling ‘unprecedented.’
Someone should let Trump know that when a word in your tweet is underlined in red, it doesn't mean "tremendous word choice" #unpresidented
Forget tax returns. Can we see high school diploma? #Trump#unpresidented
Some 90 minutes later, the tweet containing the mistake was deleted and replaced with a corrected version on Trump’s account. However, scores of social media users had already spotted the mistake and took the opportunity to make fun of America’s soon-to-be commander in chief.
Trump deleted it, but not before I saved it. Freudian slip? We can all hope he, too, soon will be "unpresidented." #LearnToSpell pic.twitter.com/tRjYEYVMJl
@realDonaldTrump It's spelled Chynuh
Even the Merriam Webster dictionary got involved.
Good morning! The #WordOfTheDay is...not 'unpresidented'. We don't enter that word. That's a new one. merriam-webster.com/dictionary/huh
On Thursday, Trump made a less serious error when he spelled the word ‘wait’: “If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking, why did the White House waite so long to act? Why did they only complain after Hillary lost?”
Last week, he had difficulty with the word ‘ridiculous,’ tweeting: “Reports by @CNN that I will be working on The Apprentice during my Presidency, even part time, are rediculous & untrue – FAKE NEWS!”
He corrected the tweet three hours later.
Trump sent out his latest tweet after the Chinese navy seized an unmanned US underwater drone as it was operating in international waters in the South China Sea.
Chinese state media CCTV reports that the Chinese Ministry of Defense says it will return the equipment, while noting that Chinese officials “regret” the US hype surrounding the incident.
