G20 Report Highlights Massive Fossil Fuel Giveaways

WASHINGTON - The U.S. and China released peer-reviewed reports today assessing the scope of fossil fuel subsidies in their respective countries as part of the G20 process to “rationalize and phase out over the medium term inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption.” 

The U.S. report mainly highlights tax-based subsidies, but also discusses incentives related to public lands leasing and transportation infrastructure.

Friends of the Earth Climate and Energy Campaigner Lukas Ross issued the following statement in response:

The U.S. report reminds us yet again of the staggering breadth of support for Big Polluters. As Congress continues to obstruct meaningful reform, stopping the flow of polluter cash into our elections is more crucial than ever. Dirty money in our elections and dirty subsidies in our economy go hand in hand.
