Little-known outfit puts Rs 11 lakh on Kanhaiya head

NEW DELHI: Disturbingly, the Delhi Police did not arrest anyone from the little-known Purvanchal Sena on Saturday for its outrageous offer of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who killed JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar.

Police questioned the purported president of the body, Adarsh Sharma, and some others during the day. The Purvanchal Sena members said that though they had faith in the judiciary, they wanted speedier justice.

"Kumar is a traitor and we want him dead. He has let down our motherland by raising antinational slogans," declared Sharma. "The court will take time to deliver a judgment, but we will ensure that he is shown his place at the earliest. This is why we will give Rs 11 lakh to his killer." The Sena denied that this was a mere publicity gimmick.

It has only been two days since Kumar was bailed out from Tihar jail where he was sent after being charged with sedition over a pro-Afzal Guru event in Jawaharlal Nehru University on February 9.

The police, in fact, attracted ridicule on social media for registering only an FIR for defacement of public property.
