Apartheid Is Great: Whatever It Takes To Secure Our Profits

To help launch Israeli Apartheid Week 2016 this week in the U.K., activists with London Palestine Action just plastered hundreds of "subvertisements" in over 500 subway trains holding about four million passengers to highlight the U.K.'s rarely discussed military, economic and media support of an apartheid Israel. Noting that "Israel and its supporters are used to having the mainstream media repeat their talking points," the BDS activists chose to highlight four areas of UK-Israeli complicity: The over 100 UK companies profiting from providing military equipment and security used in the murder of Palestinians; the British security company G4S helping imprison thousands of Palestinians, including over 500 children; the demolition of Palestinian homes under the Occupation; and BBC media coverage "repeatedly sacrificing the truth on the altar of their pro-Israeli bias" - all under the morally questionable tenet, presented on one poster, "Whatever It Takes to Secure Our Profits!"

As expected, Israeli and Zionist officials were less than happy, calling the posters "inciteful," "anti-Semitic," and "awful smears." Israel P.M. Netanyahu "demanded" the "vandalism" be taken down - many apparently have been - and an indignant UK Zionist Federation called for underground authorities to “apprehend the original culprits” who had accused Israel of "terrible things," charging "the materials promote a one-sided approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (that is) grotesque, reductionist and inaccurate," adding, in effect, what massacres, biased coverage, illegal Occupation or 300-plus cruelly pointlessdemolitions in the last six weeks? The posters in London's underground, argue many, are in fact not inciteful. They are a Palestinian reality too rarely seen.
