Palestine Will Ask the Security Council to Resolve State Borders

In an effort to define the borders of the future Palestinian state, president
Mahmoud Abbas will ask the United Nations Security Council to determine
the limits based on pre-1967 resolutions.
In a recent interview with Palestinian television, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that he
will ask the United Nations Security Council to issue a resolution determining the borders of the
 future Palestinian state.
The demarcation will be based on the pre-1967 limits. The resolution will be submitted to the
UNSC later this month and define the entire Israeli occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem
 as Palestinian territories.
“We’ll demand a timetable for ending the occupation, and the process of applying to UN institutions,
including the International Criminal Court, will continue. We demand recognition of our rights,”
he emphasized. Abbas added, “This is a long battle, and God willing, we’ll obtain our rights.”
Currently, Palestinians are looking to create an independent state including the territories of
the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip and are demanding the withdrawal of
Israeli forces from their territories.
However, Israel has refused to return to the 1967 borders and has been unwilling to discuss
 the issue of East Jerusalem.
In addition, Abbas recently called on the Security Council to denounce the Israeli regime's
continued violence at the al-Aqsa Mosque.
