Polio eradicated in India

Finally  !  The end of Polio in India.   I may have had a tiny part in the eradication. This picture that I shot  for a UNICEF campaign in the early 1980's was a major part of the early campaigns  against  Polio.  Used in posters and even coverted to huge hoardings, it was seen all over India.
It is one of my all time favourites.

India set to be declared polio-free

WHO to declare India polio free after country goes without any new recorded cases in past three years.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is set to announce India as a polio-free nation, as the country marks its third consecutive year without any new recorded cases.
The war to eradicate polio has been one of India’s public health success stories with a relentless and orchestrated public campaign to reach to the remotest corners of the country over a decade.
Until 2009, India accounted for more than half the world’s polio cases, reports say.
