surveillance and cities
Certainly in British towns and cities, Jane Jacobs’ “eyes on the street” have morphed into camera lenses. The land of George Orwell’s Big Brother has more surveillance cameras than the rest of Europe combined. The militarization of our cities is a depressing feature of urban life in the twenty-first century.
