President Trump is getting embarrassed on the global stage day after day at this point. Most recently, this can be seen with his comments that the alleged Iranian shootdown of the Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, "wasn't a big deal"...
Here is why that's GOOD.
Over the last two weeks, we have seen President Trump be humiliated on the global stage time... after time... after time...
It started with Trump proclaiming, wildly unnecessarily, that he had a "great call with Hezbollah!". You know, Hezbollah, that silly little group of, erm... terrorists... But yeah, the President of the United States having a good little chit chat, a good little call to catch up and reminisce? Not a GREAT look...
And then we saw the bizarre statement made in the Oval Office last week were he... heaped praise upon Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader and Ayatollah of Iran. Yes. The leader of the country the United States is at war with, and frequently hurls claims of terrorism, mass-murder, and all sorts of other atrocities...
"The people have a great respect for him"
"I'd be honored to meet him"
"He has a good reputation in some circles"
Again... not REALLY the best look for the President of the United States.
Then Iran launched wave after wave of missiles at Israel. Israel, the country that, at least to Donald Trump, is our "greatest ally"... and his response? He demanded that Netanyahu stand down. Don't retaliate. Do nothing. Of course... Netanyahu didn't listen to Trump, and that just made the blatant cowering of Trump even more egregious.
And now today? An American Apache gets shot down. Two pilots eject, are rescued, and return back safely. But the President of the United States' response:
"It's not a big deal"...
Four moments. Four times when the President of the United States has been HUMILIATED on the global stage. Embarrassed.
And that's a good thing. It means that President Trump DESPERATELY wants to get out of this war. He knows he's boxed in. He's known for a month now that the blockade was a total pipe dream and a farce. He knows that Iran holds overwhelming escalation dominance and that the United States has no viable military options remaining.
He's ACCEPTING his fate. He knows he's lost.
And now his public humiliation serves as evidence that he is willing to take the hits to his ego necessary to end this conflict for the best interests of the United States.
May he still respond to the Apache attack? Sure.
Do I think it will be significant? No.
Trump has accepted his fate. Now it's just a matter of negotiating the final details.
